"To win without risk, its a triumph without glory"
setstats
Don't be too disappointed if you find training in karate to be a bit boring, repetitive or maybe even hard. As a matter of fact it could be quite hard
and boring.... but...the results will grow with you.
The way
we practise  Goju Ryu karate has been focused towards "total" self defence, and therefore is very practical. To be able to attain peace of
mind and superb confidence, you must practise your
karate with the heart, and be prepared to accept all challenges, especially those which hurt.
People who attacks other people for money, or for no other reason than trying to
"prove" themselves, are psychologically different from the normal
everyday person, -they are cowards, and they abuse the defenceless and the weak, but why do we allow this to happen?
There are NO shortcuts when it comes to
self defence. You are either ready, or you are going to get mauled. Whenever you find a karate school out
there, promising guaranteed results in a short period of time, they are all but false, and a true indication of very little knowledge, when it comes
to
"practical" application. When focusing on self defence, you really have to understand the meaning of preservation and self values.

                                                                                     TRADITIONAL vs. SPORT

Our karate emphasises commitment towards physical conditioning rather than tournaments, practical karate rather than trophies, survival rather
than glory. You might be lucky to be assaulted while carrying your latest trophy. If that  happens, hit them in the head with it, and good luck!
Once you have learnt the difference between a glorified 2 minutes round of Tournament sparring, and 2 minutes of surviving
"road rage", you'll
understand the value of true
karate training.
True Karate training doesn't have to be forceful or damaging. Good Karate training is to be taught the real concepts of the Martial Arts, without
prejudice, and without having to put a dollar value to the concept, and even less, forcing a practitioner to compete, whether he or she is ready or
willing to do so.

"True Karate is to train with the heart and be taught from the heart."
                                                                                                                                                          Kaicho A de Araya

Our karate comes from a man with nearly 46 years of experience in several martial arts, and this Sensei definitely teaches from his heart and
without any prejudices. Our Karate is proof that when it comes to real combat, it works, when it comes to real value, it works, and when it comes to
real spiritual belonging, it also works.
It is easy to become complacent after so many years on the mats, and many may think one becomes invincible, but nothing could be further from
the truth, and that's why Kaicho decided many years ago, to incorporate the use of Okinawan weapons into the traditional learning of Goju Ryu
karate. Too many times a person has been seriously injured by others armed with weapons of all kinds, and many got hurt by not knowing how to
use their OWN!
Our karate has become a well balanced martial art. One that teaches a traditional art of Okinawa the way it was intended...both at the same
time! For that reason, our students excel in both, and many are very accomplished in the use of any materials that could become a weapon of self
defence.
Our karate will serve people well AND for many years, as all students are given the right tools to promote the art not only for themselves but also
for others, and most will be able to practise their art for many years to come even in the confines of their otherwise busy schedules, only because
we practise with focus in mind, not dollars.

THE USE OF WEAPONS OF SELF DEFENCE

Many would argue the use of any weapons when it comes to self-defence, and it all seems fair when the argument for karate training is that of
"empty hands" as opposed to the carrying of weapons to defend yourself.
That is fair enough, but we are not living in decades past, and nowadays confrontations are more brutal and violent than ever before, and chances
are, you are going to be hurt by whatever your attacker is using.
Why shouldn't you be able to defend yourself with any type of weapon, being this a broom stick, a comb, a fence paling, or better still,
HIS own
weapon?
In our system of self defence, we are able to complement our martial studies with proper training in the use of many Okinawan weapons, and the
traditions and Kata, mainly Matayoshi's and Ryu Kon Kai kobudo Kata, are maintained unchanged.
When it comes to ONE on ONE, we are ready for it. When it comes to many onto ONE, we are also ready for them, but when it comes to ONE against
many
armed to the teeth, if running is not sufficient, then we will defend ourselves with whatever we can put our hands on!
One must accept the fact that in the end it is not the way I will survive but how I will survive. If ultimately one have to use a weapon to survive, so
be it, but make sure you know how to use one. Many have fallen victim to the appalling situation where the use of a weapon has cause more
harm than good.
                                                                                         BENEFITS OF THE MARTIAL ARTS

As any exponent of the martial arts will tell you, there are multiple benefits in martial arts training. Of course, the most obvious benefit is a
knowledge of self defense which is one of the major reasons why the martial arts were developed in the first place.
Knowing how to defend oneself and our loved ones in a potentially dangerous situation is an asset in today’s world just as it was hundreds of
years ago. Unlike often portrayed in the movies, martial arts
are not just about fighting. Many people take up martial arts for the fitness benefits as
well.
Training in martial arts such as karate, tae kwon do, kung fu and other martial art styles will improve anybody´s cardiovascular fitness as well as
tone the muscular system. Strength will increase from the calisthenics usually employed within martial arts training, especially those isometric
exercises where we use the body as a tool. Because in martial arts we teach how to use strength effectively, the benefits in body conditioning go
hand in hand with power and stamina.
Most people will also improve their flexibility significantly while training in martial arts since entire ranges of motion from the body are
exercised. This is especially true with martial art where high kicks are used. All martial art styles will result in an improvement of one’s
coordination as well.
Unlike many other forms of physical activity, martial arts also have a mental and sometimes spiritual element which not only improves the mind’s
focus but also helps in self control. Emotions such as anger and fear are better controlled through martial arts.
Many martial artists can find an inner peace through their training. In today’s hectic world, these particular benefits translate into one of the most
effective stress management tools available. When training in a martial arts session or in a group class, all the day to day troubles of the world
seem to be forgotten. People come out refreshed, energized and ready to tackle the big world out there.
Training in martial arts usually involves many little steps and progressions. As one advances in a martial art, the feeling of accomplishment
comes with added confidence. This is especially beneficial for children who were not very confident in the first place. An increase in self
confidence for kids (as well as adults) will have a cross over effect in other areas of life such as in other sports and general self esteem. Other
challenges in life, both physical and mental, will be met with much less fear.
An important benefit of martial arts training for parents to note is that children will generally become more disciplined from the unique
formalities of martial arts classes. This is one benefit that is often lacking in other sports. Former ‘problem’ kids with bad attitudes could become
well behaved and respectful as a result of taking martial arts a few times per week.
Respect is something that all martial arts instructors place great importance in during their classes. Martial arts kids are often very well behaved
children no matter what social economic backgrounds they come from, especially when confronted with the reality of master/student dedication
and obedience.
Martial arts training has so many great benefits covering physical, mental and emotional aspects that it’s no wonder why it has become one of the
most popular activities for both adults and children. However, it is important to point out that not all martial arts programs will produce the range
of benefits discussed. Programs that teach just combat fighting techniques may not result in the desired mental and spiritual benefits so it is
important to search around for the right martial arts school that will offer the benefits one wishes to achieve.
This is why we offer FREE introductory lessons. No one is forced to sign up anything or to buy anything or to pay for an hour´s lesson.
Let´s everyone enjoy a karate class without being brainwashed into believing what they are doing is out of this world. Everybody comes to a karate
class with a different view on things, and we as Masters should be there teaching and not preaching the benefits of the martial arts.
